Totally in love with my corduroy lap warmer! Made it from a remnant in my attic. Must have bought it for sofa pillows back in the 70's. Sewed strips with the nap in opposite directions, causing a striped effect, then machine-quilted it to polydown, backed with flannel. It fits my lap perfectly without getting caught in my recliner, and it is cuddly soft and warm. I am wanting to make myself a corduroy hand warmer next. Anyone remember having a muff?
Saluting my Save the Wales sisters on this Corduroy Appreciation Day!!!
Ooh, so soft, cozy and sophisticated! That was a brilliant idea to alternate the nap to get the stripe effect. Yes, I remember hand muffs. I agree it's time for them to come back. You trend setter! I'm so glad you could join in the fun. Save the wales!
ReplyDeleteRemnants from the Attic sounds like something to wrap our heads around; I have forgotten what lives up in mine. Motivation, are you up there, too ?~!
ReplyDeleteLove the “striping”, how clever, i had never thought of that before—Brilliant !~!~

Oh that looks so cozy!! I remember muffs!!! I had a little white rabbit one and took it with me everywhere. I thought I was the bees knees!
ReplyDeleteGreat color!! Looks like it passed the snuggle test! ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh Helen!
ReplyDeleteThat looks so cozy! I pulled out all the corduroy cloths we have between the two of us from our closet and would you believe they are all earth tones?
I know I will tear them up as soon as we are done with them to make a really fluffy, earthy quilt like yours!
Very interesting idea !
ReplyDeleteI always lusted after those little white rabbit fur muffs the other little girls had around their necks. I never had one though did you?
ReplyDeleteLove your lap quilt, great color and size.
Keep cozy and Happy Sewing
Lap quilts are the best, and yours is quite wonderful. The color is great.
ReplyDeleteOh So Cosy!!! I love the photo from yesterdays post!! I'm glad it passed the test and you shared your lovely quilt with us. you'll have a warm winter!
ReplyDeleteWow all of you 11/11/11-ers have got me lusting after corduroy! Love your quilt, looks perfect for doing some handwork and catching up on your tv shows. I had a white fur muff, too - and my daughter actually had a white velvet one! Think it was a hand-me-down. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the simplicity of your quilt and the fact that you used the properties of the fabric to make the design. A treasure from the attic, just the right price. It looks warm and toasty. Yes, I remember muffs.... I had a white rabbit fur muff, which came with a ridiculous head-band-like hat, also of rabbit fur. The hat did nothing to keep you warm. I remember a couple of muffs that were my grandmothers'. My sister and I played dress-up with those.
ReplyDeleteThis looks and sounds yummy. My sister and I actually had muffs when we were children. I can easily imagine a corduroy "everyday" muff!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and snuggly looking. Corduroy is actually very soft after several washings. This holiday parade of quilts just makes me want to make another one!
ReplyDeleteOh, this looks like chocolate! Only snugglier. Very sophisticated, and I like that the nap goes both directions to make the design. Great use of what you had! Happy 11-11-11!
ReplyDeleteWho would've known that corduroy could be so useful and make a comeback? Nice lap quilt. I've enjoyed reading your blog and looking at your quilt projects as well.
