Needle Arts

My library has a new needle arts group.  Quilters, knitters, crocheters, and embroiderers all gather twice a month to show and share their work.  Jan Nicosia inspired us with her Redwork (and more) today.  She gave us the inside story about how she designs and executes her exquisite work.  I have always thought that quilters were the happiest and most generous folks, but now I must also include ALL needle artists.

The knitters have been busy making preemie hats for the local hospital.    I want to learn how to knit one of these.   They are just too cute!

Page ?

It's been so long since my last postage stamp page that I have lost count.  Have resolved to do a page a week in 2013.  Hoping to keep all my promises, but I know better.  Such a slacker here!  I feel even guiltier for everyone has so generously contributed fabrics to my project.
Today I dipped into the huge bagful from Kathie.  Her repro prints fit in right cozy with the moderns,  don't they?  This Inauguration Day/ Martin Luther King Day makes me think about our United States of America and quilts...

Fabric Message

Does fabric talk to you, too?  I was first drawn to this fabric by its name Tangled Threads.  My friend had given me a generous gift card, so I ordered yardage.  When it arrived it spoke to me, "SewSewSewSewSewSewSew..."   Message received with pleasure!

Modern Twist Mystery

Top's done!  This mystery quilt is moving along ahead of schedule.  I began it on New Year's Day and I resolved to finish it in 2013.  Unless it gets lost in some black hole around here, I should have it done  by year's end.  I need some suggestions on how to quilt it now, please...

Parks & Recreation

I have to admit I am a Recreational Quilter...not a pro....not very prolific...but I have a jolly time wherever I quilt.  Today my Quilters-in-the-Park folks shared some quilts they did in the past.  The group has been together for 14 years.   Ann (above) is one of the 7 charter members.  Her applique always astonishes.  She also is good at recycling.  I believe she used her old flannel nightgown in one of her quilts.

Marge has also been quilting a very long time, but she isn't one to dally.  Saw this tree skirt design on TV, couldn't wait to get a pattern, and drafted those trees herself.  Her angles were a bit different, so she ended up with seven trees instead of the original six .  Hey, it's a lucky number!

Lenore is my Quilt Mom....yes, I have one, too.  She has kept me going when I was dragging.  We made our Dear Jane quilts together.  She has more energy and spirit...and she will be celebrating her 90th birthday next month!  "Many, many more!"

And Jessica keeps  me going, too.  She is teaching me EPP...and believe me, I don't know how she keeps her patience sometimes.  I am soooo slow....but what the heck, I'm just here for the fun!

Construction Continues

I chose to work with architectural  materials in this quilt--stone and wood prints.

The sashing fabric is a Nancy Crow/ John Kaldor I bought way back when.  I used some for framing my old Colourwash quilts.

Looking good in this Modern Twist, too.  Some fabrics are timeless......

New Year Mysteries

My Merry Mayhem Mystery with a Modern Twist looks so simple, but I always have trouble following written instructions.     Thanks to my pals who are all literate, patient, and most encouraging, I finally got one block finished.   Time out for some chocolate cake....

Arlaine is making a Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt.  How many pieces in that block?  And this going to be a Queen size?   We need more chocolate.....

Ruth is making the alternate block in Bonnie's mystery.  Those greens are looking good!

We have our work cut out for us.  There will be more sewing dates before we finish these projects.  I look forward to them all!  Happy New Quilting Year, dear friends......
