Blue Iris

My heart skips a beat when these Siberian iris bloom.  The most heavenly shade of blue...but it is soon gone.   I want to capture these in a quilt somehow.   The list grows longer every day!

Not Too Crazy in CT

My Metro Mod pals (Victoria, Lisa, Jody, moi, Chris, Margaret) all went a little crazy at the Darien Historical Society yesterday.   Crazy for these Silk & Satin lovelies.  The crazy quilt above looks haphazard but it is really well planned and executed.   Those colors and shapes move your eye around until you just need to stop and admire the elegant stitches....which I tried to memorize.  Yeah, right!

This Friendship Fan quilt is on my Bucket List.  I've been collecting silks and velvets.  Now all I need are some friends to offer their help.   Anybody???

The Norwalk Hat Factory quilt was made from satin scraps used in hat linings.  I can't imagine putting all those  sumptuous fabrics inside a hat where it doesn't even show.  Anyway, I love the simple string-like strips arranged in a rail fence or basket weave design....almost.  Look again and notice that it is a variation of the traditional pattern.    I want to make this quilt, too.

Lastly, this Baby Blocks wall hanging was fun with its tassel fringe.  But I overheard someone say they looked like dead rabbits' feet!!!   It was a day filled with delight....just crazy enough for me!

Mug Rug for Mom

I made this Hole-in-the-Fence mug rug for my Modern8create challenge.  Will send it to Mom for Mother's Day.  She used to sew all our clothes, curtains, slipcovers, etc.  Guess I inherited the sewing gene.

Better finish off those quilting threads first!!!

Sunday in Somers

Spent Sunday in Somers, NY visiting the Northern Star Quilters' show.  It never disappoints, but this year was the best ever!  I was charmed by their special exhibit, a  tribute to Joanna Rose and her
red and white collection displayed in the Park Avenue Armory last year.  Here are a few close-ups....

 ...such elegant applique

...and delicious satin yo yos

...and this wonky weave!

Thank You Note

Want to thank you all for the very kind birthday wishes... and to Ilene who brought me this fabulous cake!  She is my son's friend and just the sweetest....more adoption papers are in the works.  I am truly blessed having so many exceptional young women in my life!!!

Souvenirs

The best part of quilt shows are the QUILTS!  But first, I want to show you some other attractions.  Books, books, and more books on what to make next......

....and miles of glorious fabrics for new inspiration.....

....and some old fabric friends that simply have to come home and live with you again.   Had a great time in Paducah and the goodies to prove it!  More quilt photos to come.....

Michael's Book Party

You can probably guess who was there by hubby's side .....

....while he graciously greeted his following and personally signed each copy ....

as guests posed near favorite works of art.   It was a very special event.  I am going to put away my quilting now and curl up with my new book!
