We had a wonderful program at Empire Quilters on Saturday. Maggie shared some of her Gee's Bend collection and pointed out the unusual quilting designs in their "simple" quilts. This red & white was quilted with a rooftop motif instead of within the strips. Was that a practical choice or an aesthetic one?
The unusual color combination caught my eye on this one. I like interesting juxtapositions that raise questions....like why did this quilter add a white binding?
My own version of Gee's Bend inspired piecing is the scarf above. I added cotton scrap blocks to some silks for an elegant/rustic look.
Your scarf is wonderful! Really a work of art. I love your addition of red/orange to the blue palate.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I love that poppy red, too!
DeleteOh is that shot cotton on the outer border of your scarf?
ReplyDeleteI bet it looks great on you :0).
Happy sewing
Not a shot cotton, but a fat quarter of woven hombre plaid that I spotted in JoAnn's and just had to have it.
DeleteI love your scarf! I am sure you look absolutely elegant wearing it too!
ReplyDeleteWill do my best to act like a lady!!
