Stamps From Across the Pond

This glorious packet of fabrics arrived from Sheila via airmail just in time.  I am preparing for "Sandy" this weekend, stocking up on canned food, batteries, etc....and looking forward to arranging more pages of postage stamps.  Who knows... I may even try hand piecing these little gems if we lose power.  It's been done before!

  2. Do you cut these up and keep them by your machine to feed through the machine between other projects as "leaders and enders" like Bonnie Hunter does?
It works for me but sometimes I have so much fun with them I forget what I am supposed to be doing :0)

    Happy Sewing

    1. Leaders and enders are a great idea, but I get too confused when I mix projects. I take the slow deliberate route, sewing pairs, then rows of pairs, etc. Also like to lay out each block beforehand...and even then I sometimes get confused!

    2. Hi Helen.
I came across your blog and wanted to jot you a reply saying that I would love to send you some fabric scraps. I, too, am working on my version of a postage stamp quilt and am making 7x7 blocks. I have way more fabric that I know what to do with and I love the super scrappy nature of a postage stamp quilt done with all different fabrics.

I just noticed that you are from Long Island and I hope that you are safe! I have a friend here in California who is originally from Island Park on Long Island, and I understand that the area he grew up in is decimated. I pray that you are alright!

If you get back on here and would like some fabric from me, please let me know and I'll send you some. Stay safe!

  3. Wow, what a bunch of cool-looking fabrics. How much fun are you going to be having this weekend - In the Dark !~!

Oh, Helen, I hope it is not too bad an experience. The pictures on Wunderground.com are downright frightening. And I lived in South FL for thirty years and have seen and been thru my share of storms.

Do drop in and let us know how it's going, if you can. I'm sending hugs and candles...

  5. Thinking of you and holding good thoughts. Hope you don't have to go too long without power. I'd be happy to contribute to your collection of "stamps." But maybe you already have enough for two lifetimes? ;- )
